Geweldloos verzet
Steeds meer ouders en hulpverleners ervaren moeilijkheden bij de aanpak van ernstig probleemgedrag bij (hun) opgroeiende kinderen. Geweld, druggebruik, computermisbruik, schoolweigering, weglopen of suïcidedreigingen maken ouders wanhopig. Ze slagen er niet meer in om duidelijke grenzen te stellen en bij overtreding consequent te reageren. Ouders én hulpverleners dreigen vast te raken in verschillende vormen van escalaties. Dreigen, eisen, straffen, preken enz. worden afgewisseld met toegeven om de lieve vrede te bewaren. Bij ouderparen volgt de ene ouder vaak het toegevende patroon terwijl de andere ouder vaak ‘de strenge’ wordt.
De principes van geweldloos verzet, ontwikkeld door de Israëlische psycholoog Haim Omer, bieden een antwoord om uit deze escalatieprocessen te stappen.
De kern van deze benadering ligt in het vergroten van de ouderlijke aanwezigheid in het leven van de jongere in combinatie met het inzetten van een krachtig netwerk. Geweldloos verzet gebruikt de methodes en ideeën van Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King en Rosa Parks in gezinnen en de gemeenschap om ouders en zorgfiguren bij te staan bij het ouderschap.
De belangrijkste principes

Een duidelijk standpunt innemen tegen elke daad van geweld door jezelf of je kind of adolescent

Sit-ins organiseren

Steunfiguren/hulp zoeken en gebruiken

Verzoeningsgebaren stellen die losstaan van het gedrag van je kind en de relatie tussen jou en je kind positief beïnvloeden.

De situatie loopt uit de hand omdat ruzies escaleren. De ruzies gaan steeds een stapje verder en eindigen soms met geweld; er wordt geroepen, gescholden of geslagen.
Je doet je best maar zonder dat je het beseft maak je het misschien erger. Hoe jij reageert op je kind heeft een rechtstreeks effect op wat er gebeurt.
